The small print
Privacy & terms.
No dark patterns, no data broking, no surprises. Here is exactly what happens to anything you send me, and what will change when it does.
What I collect
Only what you type into the contact form, plus two technical details that come with any web request.
- Your name and email address — so I can reply.
- Your company name, project type and budget range, if you provide them.
- The description of your project that you write.
- Your IP address and browser user-agent string, recorded automatically with the submission.
The IP address and user-agent are stored to limit spam and abuse of the form. They are not used to build a profile of you, and they are not shared with anyone.
This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages people read — nothing more: no advertising cookies, no profiling, and no other third-party trackers. Beyond that, the only cookie set is the session cookie Laravel needs for the contact form to work securely.
If you are visiting from the EU, UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, analytics stays switched off until you say yes to the small prompt in the corner. Decline and the site works exactly the same; your choice is remembered on this device and you can change it at any time from the link at the bottom of this page. Visitors elsewhere are counted without a prompt.
I may later add advertising measurement from providers such as Google or Meta so I can tell which campaigns actually bring people here. When that happens I will update this page before the scripts go live, name the providers in the list below, and extend the consent prompt to cover them.
How AI is used on your enquiry
When you submit the contact form, the description you wrote is sent to Anthropic's Claude API, which reads it and returns a structured summary — the project type, the features it likely needs, and the questions worth asking. You see that summary on screen; I receive it by email along with a rough internal estimate.
This matters enough to state plainly: your project description leaves this server and is processed by a third party. Only the description, your selected project type and your company name are sent. Your email address, IP address and budget selection are not.
Anthropic does not train its models on data submitted through its API. If you would rather your description was not analysed this way, email me directly at jb@jonathanburtondesign.com instead of using the form.
Who else sees it
As few people as possible. This is the full list as of the date at the foot of this page, not a representative sample — if it grows, this page changes first:
- Anthropic — receives your project description for the analysis described above.
- My email provider — delivers the notification of your enquiry to my inbox.
- My hosting provider — operates the server the site and its database run on.
- Google Analytics — receives which pages were viewed, roughly where from, and what kind of device, so I can see what people read. For visitors in consent regions, only after you accept the prompt.
I do not sell or rent your information, and I never will. If advertising measurement is added later, those providers will be named here before any script runs.
How long I keep it
Contact submissions are kept for as long as they are commercially useful — typically while we are talking, and for a period afterwards in case you come back. If we work together, records relating to that work are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
You can ask me to delete your enquiry at any time and I will, unless I am legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Whatever jurisdiction you are in, you can email me and ask what I hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. I will respond within one business day, the same as any other message.

Terms of use
This site is a portfolio and a way to get in touch. Nothing on it is a contract, a quote, or a binding offer.
In particular: the scope summary and timeline the contact form shows you are generated automatically from your own words in a few seconds. It is a first read, not a quote. It may be wrong, it may miss things, and it is not a commitment to a price, a timeline, or to taking on the work. Anything binding is agreed in writing between us before a project starts.
The written content, design, and code of this site are mine. Client work shown on the Work page belongs to the respective clients and appears with their permission.
The site is provided as-is. I will keep it running and accurate, but I do not warrant that it will be available uninterrupted or free of errors.
If we work together
Project terms — scope, price, payment schedule, ownership of the code, and what happens if either of us needs to stop — are agreed in a written proposal or contract before any work begins. Those terms govern the project and take precedence over anything on this page.
As a rule: once the invoice is settled you own the code and everything created for the project, and you can take it elsewhere at any time. Hosting is separate — if I host for you, that runs on my infrastructure under its own arrangement, and ending it does not affect what you own.
Changes to this page
If I change how any of this works, I will change this page and update the date below, before the change goes live rather than after. There is no mailing list to notify, so it is worth a look if you are about to send something sensitive.
The change I can already see coming is advertising measurement. It will be reflected here and in the consent prompt before anything is switched on.
